Rule 1: ESBS Award Rules (Dec 2006)
Objective: The ESBS Award is awarded to residents in recognition of their outstanding paper in the field of cranial base pathology in the hope that they will be encouraged to continue their contribution to this field.
Field: The Award will be given to a resident, who presents a poster, paper on clinical or basic science research related to the field of cranial base pathology
Eligibility: Any resident in the above mentioned fields, not older than 35 years are eligible for nomination.
Criteria: The abstract should be:
- Original
- Valid
- Pertinent
- Clear
Nomination Procedure
- An individual should nominate himself/herself
- A candidate can be nominated by his/her department/institution
- Winners are selected without respect of nationality or discipline
- The Congress President and Congress Scientific Committee select the nominees
- The ESBS Award Committee (EAC) is composed of: ESBS President and one ESBS Executive Committee member
- The EAC selects three winners (poster, clinical, basic science research) from among the nominees
- The ESBS President formally announces the winners during the Congress dinner

Rule 2: ESBS Fellowship Rules (Dec 2006)
Objective: The ESBS Fellowship is awarded to residents in their last two years of training or young specialists (ORL, Neurosurgery, Maxillofacial surgery) in order to support further education or research in the field of cranial base pathology and to encourage continuation of their contribution to this field.
Field: The Fellowship will be given to a resident in his/her last two years of training or young specialists following a Fellowship or Training Program related to cranial base pathology.
Eligibility: Any resident in his/her last two years of training or young specialists in the above mentioned fields not older than 40 years is eligible for nomination.
Candidates profile:
- Will complete in the next two years or has satisfactorily completed an approved training program in ORL, Neurosurgery or Maxillofacial surgery
- Must be working in a recognized training institution with staff in ORL, Neurosurgery, Maxillofacial surgery and Neuroradiology
- Must provide a written statement of support of his/her Program Coordinator
- Must participate in the ESBS Congress in which he/she is nominated and must also give a scientific presentation during that congress
Nomination Procedure
- An individual should nominate himself/herself by sending a CV, list of publications, invitation of the Head of the hosting-Skull Base Center and a working program
- A candidate can be nominated by his/her department/institution
- Winners are selected without respect of nationality or discipline
- The Congress President and Congress Scientific Committee select the nominees
- The ESBS Award Committee (EAC) is composed of: ESBS President, General Secretary and one Executive Committee member
- The EFC selects at least two winners preferably of different disciplines from among the nominees
- The EFC decides the total number of ESBS Fellowships in consultation with the Treasurer and based on the financial possibilities
- The ESBS President formally announces the winners during the Congress Dinner

Rule 3 (June 2011): Under the Auspices of the ESBS
The following rule applies to “Under the Auspices of the ESBS”
A request for organizing a meeting “Under the Auspices of the ESBS” is assessed by the ESBS President and Secretary General based on the program & following criteria:
- Multidisciplinary involvement: Neurosurgery; ORL, Maxillofacial surgery, Neuroradiology
- Organizers: should usually be ESBS member(s) or known to the ESBS
- Faculty: should usually include participation of (an) ESBS member(s)
After a successful assessment of the program:
- “Under the Auspices of the European Skull Base Society” should be printed on the front page of the flyer/brochure with next to it the ESBS logo as well as on the front page of the website of the meeting
- The ESBS has no financial interest in the specific meeting
- A reduced registration fee for ESBS members should however be available
Rule 4 (June 2011): Past-President and Honorary Members
Past-Presidents and Honorary Members are invited to ESBS Congresses without being requested to pay the registration fee.
Rule 5
Representatives of the Corporate member Skull Base Societies (CM-SBS) or Multinational Skull Base Societies (CM-MSBS), preferably their President, Vice-President or Secretary General are invited at least once a year to participate at the open part of the meeting of the Executive Committee of the ESBS. The invitees do not have the right to vote.
Rule 6
Representatives of the Corporate member Skull Base Societies (CM-SBS) or Multinational Skull Base Societies (CM-MSBS), preferably their President, Vice-President or Secretary General may apply in written form to the Secretary General of the ESBS to participate at the next board meeting.
Rule 7 (April 2017): Wolfgang Draf Lecture
- will be part of each ESBS Congress program.
- the lecturer will be elected by the Executive Committee
- at least 6 months prior to the congress date
- possibly the balance between disciplines and countries should be considered over the years.
- the lecturer is a person who has rendered particular service in the field of the skull base disciplines
Rule 8 (April 2017)
When the ESBS Congress is organized by two Corporate Member-National Skull Base Societies, the Presidents of the involved Societies are both Congress President.
The President-Elect, who is chosen by the Executive Committee, is one of both Congress Presidents and must be of a different discipline from that of the President.
